Obituary of Alfred W. Lamothe

"Alfred W. Lamothe, 83, of Chauncey Walker St, died Friday, Jan. 6 at home. Born in Springfield, July 10, 1922, he was the son of the late Alfred and Evelyn (Gervais) Lamothe. He grew up in Springfield and later lived in Agawam for many years before moving to Belchertown in 1984. He was a maintenance man at Agawam Public Schools for many years before retiring in 1984. Mr. Lamothe was a proud veteran who served his country during WWII in the Army as a paratrooper. He received the Bronze Star and two purple hearts and was discharged as a Corporal. While living in Belchertown, Al was a communicant of St. Francis Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He will be deeply missed by his wife of nearly 60 years, Helen (Babcock) Lamothe, along with his son Steven and his wife Lisa of Palmer, a son in law Raymond Provost of Westfield, and six grandchildren and three great grandchildren . He also leaves his two sisters Ada Lawler of Springfield and Jeanne Paradise of Belchertown. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter Sandra Provost in 1993. Funeral services will be Tuesday from the Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home, 10 Maple St., (Rte. 202) at 10:00 a.m. followed by a liturgy of Christian burial at 11:00 a.m. in St. Francis Church. Burial with military honors will be at 1:00 p.m. at the Massachusetts Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. Calling hours are Monday from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. For those wishing, donations may be made in his memory to Quaboag Valley Hospice, 44B Wright St, Palmer, MA 01069."
