Obituary of Jon L. Cowan

"S.Hadley- Jon L. Cowan, 56, of East Street, passed away peacefully February 2, 2010 at home with the love of his family surrounding him. Born April 25, 1953 in Wichita, Kansas, he was son of Earl and the late Irene (Pulaski) Cowan. Jon grew up in S.Hadley and graduated from S.Hadley High School. He furthered his education at Umass Stockbridge after serving his country in the US Navy during the Vietnam era. For 20 years, Jon worked at Mt. Holyoke College, later becoming superindendant of grounds. For the past five years, he has worked as a rehabilitative equipment technician at Hudson Home Healthcare in Chicopee. Jon loved the game of golf and took much enjoyment in horticulture and vacationing with his family. Besides his father, he will be greatly missed by his wife of 32 years, Kathleen (Lunney), along with his two children Laura of Chapel Hill, NC and Douglas of Astoria, NY. Jon also leaves his siblings Patricia, Janice, Kathleen and Michael. Visitation will be held Friday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Beers & Story S.Hadley Funeral Home, 646 Newton St. (Rte 116) with a closing prayer at 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th floor, Brookline, MA 02445-7226, ATTN: Contribution Services.
