Obituary of Virginia Roughgarden

"Belchertown-Virginia (Godfrey) Roughgarden, 68, of Chauncey Walker St. died May 5 at Holyoke Medical Center with her family by her side. Born September 18, 1936 in Greenfield, she was the daughter of the late Archie and Esther (Maynard) Godfrey. Virginia has lived in Belchertown for the past 20 years, previously residing in Wilbraham. She worked for many years at local restaurants and was a bus driver for the Wilbraham School Systems. She retired from Mt. Holyoke College in 2001 after her eight years of employment as the dining manager. Virginia enjoyed camping and white water river rafting. She leaves her husband of 30 years, Leroy, “Roy”, children Darrell of Springfield, Kim Merceri and her fiance Kevin of Feeding Hills, step children Todd Roughgarden of Springfield, Tammey Gnihan and her husband Timothy of Wilbraham, Cheryl Cronin of Ludlow, Kimberly White and husband David of Indian Orchard, Dawn Polhemlis and husband Raymond of Hampden, Shawn and his wife Lisa of Wilbraham. Virginia also leaves her siblings Ronald Godfrey of South Hadley, Alice Goodrich and her husband John of Wilbraham, Lawrence Godfrey of Monson, 6 grandchildren 14 step grandchildren, and many close friends. She was predeceased by a son and daughter. A celebration of life service will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home followed by burial in East Wilbraham Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 3:00-5:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. Donations may be made in her memory to American Cancer Society, W. MA Division, 31 Capital Dr., W.Springfield, MA 01089. "
