Obituary of Marlene K. Rose

"South Hadley - Marlene K. Rose, 71, died on November 3, 2009 in Baystate Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born on November 5, 1937 in Greenfield, MA and was the daughter of the late Henry and Irene (Sommer) Kinney. Marlene was a very loving wife, mother and grandmother and enjoyed time with her family and tending to her beautiful flower gardens. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church in South Hadley and was a Life Deacon, a leader in the Awana Program, served on the educational committee and one of the principle organizers of the Healing Room. Marlene was a registered nurse by education an in her early career as a nurse she was a nursery supervisor at Boston Lying Hospital and later a volunteer RN at Skinner Prenatal Clinic. She also was the proud owner of Sam, a registered therapy dog. She and Sam would visit the patients of Wingate of South Hadley and Hawthorn Adult Day Care in West Springfield. Marlene and her husband Richard were the co-owners of Wild Birds Unlimited & Nature Store in Wilbraham from 1990-1995. She will be deeply missed by her husband Richard of 44 years, her two loving sons Andrew of West Springfield, MA and Caleb and his wife Sheila of Indian Orchard along with her sister Marilyn Crafts and her husband Robert of Niskayuna, NY. Her two grandchildren, Richmond and Rebekah along with her brother-in-law Robert Rose of FL and many nieces and nephews also survive her. Marlene was preceded in death by her sister Lois Hall Bruce. A committal service will be on Friday, November 13, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at the Mass Veterans' Memorial Cemetery. The memorial service will be on Saturday, November 14 at 10:30 a.m. at the Second Baptist Church, 589 Granby Rd., So. Hadley, MA 01075.
