Obituary of Donald C. McCray

"South Hadley – Donald C. McCray, 75, of Alvord St., died suddenly Friday, January 28, 2005 at Holyoke Hospital. Born in Springfield, MA June 4, 1929, he was the son of Carlos C. and Elsie (Bemis) McCray. Donald was raised in Monson and graduated from Monson Academy and Stockbridge School of Agriculture. In 1955 Donald purchased his farm on Alvord Street, he was a longtime dairy farmer and owner of the Country Creamery enjoyed by thousands of school children and adults over the years. In 1972 he established the Petting Farm in memory of his deceased son, Allen McCray. In 2003 he was the Grand Marshall of the 250th Anniversary Parade in South Hadley. He will be missed by his close friend and companion, Anne Ely of South Hadley and a son Stephen D. McCray and his wife Linda of South Hadley, and four grandchildren Douglas, Michael, Tim and Christy Lee. He also leaves a brother Robert C. McCray and his wife Joyce of New Hampshire and many nieces and nephews. In 1971 he was predeceased by his son Allen McCray from the result of a farm accident A funeral service will be Tuesday at 11:00 am in the BEERS & STORY SOUTH HADLEY FUNERAL HOME, 646 Newton St. (Rt116). Calling hours will be Monday from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 pm. A graveside service will be Wednesday at 11:00 am at Hillside Cemetery in Monson.
