Obituary of Frederick J. Magiera

"Frederick J. Magiera, 83, of Park Street, died Saturday, August 29, 2009 in Worcester. Born in Warren, October 31, 1925, he was the son of the late Joseph and Sophie (Morawiec) Magiera. He grew up in Warren, a graduate of its high school and moved to Palmer in 1951. He proudly served his country during WWII in the Navy. He served in the Pacific Theatre during the battle at Iwo Jima and thereafter participated as a life member of the Landing Craft Infantry and was a regular attendee at their annual reunions. Fred was a skilled carpenter and worked for 40 years for the J. J. Raczka Construction Company. He later managed the Raczka Lumber Yard before retiring. A communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church, he was also a member of Club 55 and the American Legion Post 130. In his leisure he formerly played the accordion with the Rhythm Kings Polka band. Fred also dedicated volunteer time to the Palmer Food Share. As grandchildren became a part of his life, he dedicated his love and time to them and their various sporting events and dance recitals. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 58 years, Doris (Dudek) Magiera, along with his 3 daughters Christine DiMarzio and husband Richard of E. Brookfield, Cynthia Magiera of Palmer, and Diane Boutotte and husband John of Sterling. He also leaves his 4 precious grandchildren Jason and Nicole DiMarzio and Jeffrey and Caitlyn Boutotte, along with a brother John and wife Ruth of Palmer and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews and sisters and brothers in lawswendy1953. Besides his parents, a sister Irene Raczka preceded him in death. Calling hours are Tuesday, September 1 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Beers & story Palmer Funeral Home, 1475 N. Main St, (Rte. 20). Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 2. Family and friends may gather by 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home to process to a liturgy of Christian burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Thomas Church. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery. For those wishing, donations may be made in his memory to St. Thomas Building and Maintenance Memorial Fund, 1076 Thorndike St, Palmer, 01069."
