Obituary of Kozmos Lachowski

"Kozmos Lachowski, 88, of Roosevelt St, died December 27, 2004 at Wingate at Wilbraham Nursing Home. Born in Palmer, May 3, 1916, he was the son of the late Joseph and Josephine (Soja) Lachowski and was a 1935 graduate of Palmer High School. Mr. Lachowski served in the US Army from February 19, 1941 – June 28, 1945. He served in the European Theater as the Chief Radiologic Technologist with 2nd Evacuation Hospital and received a bronze star for meritorious service during the invasion of Normandy. He later received degrees from Bentley College and Western New England College in accounting, finance and business administration. Prior to WWII, he worked as an electrician at the former Colorado Fuel & Iron in Palmer, and later was a 30 year employee of the former Savage Arms where he was lead accountant and supervisor. He retired in 1977. Kozmos was a communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church and a charter member of its Eucharistic Ministry as well as its Couples Club. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 49 years, the former Helen Doersam, his son Joseph and his wife Ann of Sutton, along with his grandchildren Steven, Susan and Caitlin. He is also survived by his brother Frank of Palmer and was predeceased by his brother Stanley in 2002. Funeral services will be Thursday at 9:00 a.m. from the Beers &b Story Palmer Funeral Home, 1475 N. Main St, (Rte. 20) followed by a liturgy of Christian burial at 10:00 in St. Thomas Church. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery.
