Obituary of Mildred C. Hemphill

"Palmer- Mildred C. Hemphill, 97, of Main St., died October 18 at Baystate Medical Center. Born in North Troy, VT, September 25, 1907, she was the daughter of the late Charles B. and Metta B. (Bannister) Chase. Mildred was a 62 year resident of Allen St. in Palmer. She worked at New England Tel & Tel in Palmer for over 30 years, where she met and befriended many of the townspeople. She was a longtime member of the Second Congregational Church and a Telephone Pioneer. Mildred was also very active in the Palmer and West Warren Senior Centers and attended functions with the Red Hat Society. She is survived by a daughter Norma Hitchcock of Agawam and three grandchildren, James Hitchcock of W.Springfield, Alan Hitchcock of Feeding Hills and his wife Susan, and Linda LeClair of Agawam and her husband William. Mildred also leaves five great grandchildren, Amy LeClair, Daniel LeClair and Matthew LeClair of Westfield, and Allison and Kimberly Hitchcock of Feeding Hills. She was predeceased by her husband Raymond in 1970 and a grandson Richard in 1998. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Oak Knoll Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Flowers are accepted and donations may be made in her memory to the Second Congregational Church, 1080 Pleasant St., Palmer, MA 01069. "
