Obituary of Ida Simone Decoteau

"Ida Simone (Grenier) Decoteau, 86, died October 10, 2004 in Mercy Hospital. Born in Hygate Springs, Vermont on July 27, 1918, the second daughter of Joseph and Rose Alma Grenier. The family made it’s home between St. Jean, Quebec and North Adams, MA. She attended the local schools and then began her lifetime work at Sprague Electric Company, North Adams, for some 42 years. There she became it’s first women foreman, heading three departments and was an honored member of it’s Quarter Century Club. On December 7, 1944 she married Alcide J. Decoteau, who predeceased her in 1976. She was the proud mother of two sons, Rev. Vernon P. Decoteau, Pastor of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Belchertown, MA and Bruce J. Decoteau of North Adams. She leaves two grandsons, Nicolas and Jared Decoteau, a sister, Mrs. Cecile McConnell along with her sisters-in-law, Ms. Cecile Descoteaux, Eva Maruco, Gloria Clairmont, Isabel Descoteau of North Adams and Anita Hargreaves-Price of Vallejo, CA, along with many nieces and nephews. She made her home on Bonair Ave. in North Adams, as well as in Wells, ME. She was an excellent seamstress and a noted friend to many, including former President and Mrs. George H.W. Bush. Calling hours will be at the Beers and Story Belchertown Funeral Home on Wednesday from 3:00-7:00 p.m. The funeral mass will take place on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at Notre Dame Church, Adams, MA. A viewing will precede the mass from 10:00-11:15 am in the church. Burial will be in the family plot at South View Cemetery, North Adams. In Lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the St. Francis Building Fund, PO Box 612 Belchertown, MA. "
