Obituary of Erwin Rufus Bacon

"Palmer, Erwin "Ernie" Rufus Bacon, 86, of Overlook Dr, died Wednesday, June 17 at Baystate Medical Center. Born in Palmer, November 23, 1922, he was the son of the late Rufus P. and Martha M. (Sutters) Bacon. Ernie grew up in Palmer and was a graduate of its high school. He served his country during WWII in the Coast Guard and served in the South Pacific on the USS Gallup. In his employment, he worked for 25 years at Diamond International in Thorndike, and later retired in 1988 from Jarvis & Jarvis in Palmer. He was a lifetime member of St. Paul's Unitarian Universalist Church in Palmer and a member of the Thomas Lodge of Mason and the Bela Grotto. Ernie enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots on television in his leisure. He will be very sadly missed by his wife of 42 years, June (Flint) Bacon, his daughters Amy Mae Bacon of Palmer, and Sally Ann Purucker and her husband Brent of Marshall, MI, his son Rory Lee Bacon of Palmer. A son Ronald Erwin Bacon, and sisters Esther Phillips and Grace Jolly, brother Bruce Trumble, along with his parents preceded him in death. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 27 at 11:30 a.m. at the St. Paul's Unitarian Universalist Church. The family requests that for those wishing, donations may be made in Ernie's memory to the Capital Fund of St. Paul's Church, P. O. Box 307, Palmer, MA 01069. "
