Obituary of Gertrude F. Bakos

"Chicopee, Gertrude F. Bakos, 87, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 17 at Holyoke Medical Center. Born in Holyoke on June 1, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Mary (Lamey) Griffin. She resided in the Aldenville section of Chicopee for most of her life and was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Willamansett. Gertrude worked in the family business, Griffin Express, for many years. She was very active in local PTA's; she was co-president of the City Wide Chicopee PTA with her late husband Stephen, president of the Lambert Lavoie PTA and a member of the building commission for Edward Bellamy Middle School. She was a member of the Chicopee Business and Professional Women's Club and a member of the Chicopee Super C's. She cherished time with her family at Cape Cod and babysitting her grandchildren. She was predeceased in 1983 by her husband of 42 years, Stephen Bakos, Sr. She will be deeply missed by her three loving children, Isabel Brosnan of Chicopee, Stephen, Jr. and his wife Nancy of So. Hadley and Carole Rege and her husband Richard, Jr. of Chicopee along with her five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Besides her husband she is also predeceased by her sister, Sister Mary Cecilius, SP and her son-in-law, Thomas V. Brosnan. Funeral services will be on Monday, June 22 at 8:45 a.m. at Beers and Story So. Hadley Funeral Home, 646 Newton St. (Rt. 116), with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 at St. Mary's Church.
