Obituary of C. Walter Medrek

"C. Walter Medrek, 73, of Federal St., died Tuesday, June 2 in Springfield. Born in Chicopee, January 19, 1936, he was the son of the late Casmir and Mary (Swierk) Medrek and has lived in Belchertown most of his life. He had been employed for Rock-Tenn in Chicopee before retiring. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Granby and cared for and adopted Greyhounds. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 20 years, Mary (Jackson) Medrek, along with his daughter Michele Burke, her husband Michael of Chicopee and his two grandchildren, Shawn and Mathew Burke. His niece Debra Jackson and her husband Charles survive him as well as their children Cynthia Avalos, Stephen, Samantha and Robert Jackson. He also leaves nieces and nephews Corrie Iavarone, Ashley , Ben and Tim Beaver, and one great nephew and two great nieces. Besides his parents, his siblings Barbara Terry and Richard Medrek preceded him in death. Calling hours will be Friday, June 5 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home, 10 Maple St., (Rte 202). Services will be Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m. from the funeral home to be followed by a funeral service in the church at 11:00 a.m. For those wishing, donations may be made in his memory to Greyhound Options in Ware."
