Obituary of Bridget Gaffney

" Bridget (McGourty) Gaffney, 94, of N. Main street, died Saturday at Governor’s House Nursing Home in Westfield. Born in County Lietrum, Ireland, she was the daughter of the late James and Helen (McTiernan) McGourty, and immigrated to this country at a young age. Mrs. Gaffney moved to Palmer in 1954 and was a communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church and a member of the senior center. She was predeceased by her husband Bartley Gaffney in 1990 and her daughter Mary Sharon Matuszczak in 1998. She is survived by her son in law Peter Matuszczak of Chicopee, her two grandsons, Kevin and his wife Chris of Westfield, and Michael and his wife Denise of Wilbraham, along with three great grandchildren Catherine and Michael, Jr. of Wilbraham, and Kealyn of Westfield. She also leaves a brother Joseph McGourty of Worcester and many nieces and nephews. A calling hour will be held on Tuesday, July 27 from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. at the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home followed by a mass in St. Thomas Church at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
