Obituary of Claire G. Como

" Claire G. (Rivest) Como, 78, of Memorial Drive, died Monday at home surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in South Hadley, March 26, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Alfreda (Boucher) Rivest and was a long time South Hadley resident. She lived in Palm Bay, FL for 18 years before relocating to Chicopee. She was a former long time communicant of St. Theresa’s Church in South Hadley and was also very active while living in FL. She donated much of her time to local blood banks, was a supervisor of voting in their Florida community, loved to play cards, and was a great seamstress. Claire will also be remembered as a loving caregiver, as a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Claire will be greatly missed by her husband of 57 years, Armand J. Como, her five children, William J. Como of Gilbert, S. Carolina, James L. Como and Joan M. Wojnarowski both of S. Hadley, Edward A. Como of Chicopee and Linda C. Huard of Holyoke, along with her eight precious grandchildren and her great granddaughter. She also leaves a brother George Rivest of Sierra Vista, AZ and a sister Irene Viens of Kissimee, FL. A celebration of her life will be held on Friday at 10:00 a.m. in the Beers & Story S. Hadley Funeral Home, 646 Newton St, (Rte 116), followed by burial in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Donations may be made in her memory by donating platelets and blood to Holyoke Medical Center Blood Bank or to Shriner’s Hospital, Carew Street, Springfield.
