Obituary of Donald F. Smith

"Belchertown-Donald F. (Lameir) Smith, 68, passed away April 7, 2009 at Baystate Medical Center. Born May 8, 1940 in Springfield, MA, son of the late Mancel A. Lamier, adopted father Roland and Irene (Demers) Smith. Donald has lived in Belchertown since 1980, previously residing in Ludlow. He worked for many years as a heavy equipment operator for International Union of Operating Engineers local 98. Don loved growing flowers, his greenhouse, selling vegetables, his chickens, along with ocean fishing and lobstering. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 31 years, Susan (Redfern), along with his children David Smith of Palmer, Maryann Houle of Three Rivers, Lynn LaRose of Bondsville, Thomas Smith of Palmer, along with his stepchildren Holly Harper of Ware, Robert Harris of Wilbraham, and William Harris of Ludlow. Don also leaves 12 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and 2 sisters Sandy Del Monte of Westfield and Patricia Devillez of Florida. Visitation will be held Saturday from 1:00-3:30 p.m. at the Beers & Story PALMER Funeral Home followed by a service of remembrance beginning at 3:30 p.m. Donations may be made in his memory to MRSA Research.
