Obituary of John T. Spelko

"Palmer, John T. "Grandpa" Spelko, Sr. 88, of Country Lane, died peacefully at home on Saturday, April 4, 2009. Born in Palmer, October 6, 1920, he was the son of the late John and Elizabeth (Cunliff) Spelko and has lived in Palmer all of his life. John served his country in the US Army for six years during WWII. He worked at Monsanto for 35 years before retiring in 1981. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church, a volunteer at Wing Memorial Hospital for many years and an avid Red Sox and golf fan. He was predeceased by his wife Rose (Christman) in 1999, a brother George in 2009 and a great granddaughter Elizabeth Rose in 2007. He will be missed by his children, Frank and his wife Lori, his caregivers with whom he lived and John, Jr. and his wife Linda of Monson. He will also be missed by his grandchildren Maya Andrews and her husband Kelly, Erica Spelko, Jennifer Bolduc and her husband Joe and Tiffany Spelko and her fiancé Billy Skinner, two great grandchildren Ethan & Caleb Andrews and four nieces. Calling hours will be Tuesday evening from 5:00 – 6:45 p.m. at the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home. A service to remember his life will be at 6:45 p.m. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
