Obituary of Harold C. LaBroad

"Belchertown – Harold C. "Mickey" LaBroad, 94, of Jackson St., passed away on March 12, 2009 at Baystate Medical Center. Born May 24, 1914 in Ludlow, MA, he was the son of the late George and Martha (Eagan) LaBroad. Mickey graduated from Belchertown High School in 1932 and has resided here ever since. He retired in 1979, from the Belchertown State School as a steam fireman after working for ten years. He also worked as a mechanic at Gold Chevrolet, Packard in Holyoke and Springfield Lincoln Mercury. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years. He was predeceased by his wife Gertrude (Dawson) in 1991 and two sisters Ella Prescott and Dorothy Dorey. He is survived by his son James LaBroad and his wife Marie of Pineville, LA, five grandchildren Gill (LaBroad) Vaughn of AL, Sylvia LaBroad of Iran, Theresa Aronin of Milwaukee, Susan McCarty and Amy Lewis both of LA and thirteen great grandchildren. He also leaves several nieces Martha Barrett, Beverly Dearness, Sally Robertson, Ann Mann, Nancy Greeley and a nephew William Dawson and his special caregiver Sam. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home, with a Masonic Evergreen Service at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by burial in South Cemetery.
