Obituary of Boleslaw Pieniak

"Wilbraham-Boleslaw Pieniak, 88, passed away February 25, 2009 at home with his family by his side. Born September 10, 1920 in Poland. As a young man at the age of 17 he was taken prisoner from Poland then freed by the English Army and given the opportunity to come to the United States. In 1948, Boleslaw married Gisela H. (Reinhold) of Germany and they migrated to the United States on the USS Stewart to New Jersey. The family started with nothing and Boleslaw began sweeping floors at the A & P and worked his way to shift supervisor in the bakery after 27 years of employment. At the age of 55, Boleslaw began a second career at American Saw in the shipping and receiving department and retired after 15 years. He loved gardening, woodworking, and fixing anything; his hands never rested. Living in Wilbraham for 47 years, Boleslaw and his wife relocated to Palmer 2 years ago. Boleslaw was a provider and hero not only to his family but also to Gisela 's family in Germany, as he touched their lives and shared with them everything he could. He will be greatly missed and eternally loved by his wife along with his three children, Ilona Bernet and her husband John, with whom Boleslaw and Gisela lived with in Palmer, Dennis of Hampden, and Edward and his wife Gail of Lakeland, FL. Opa will long be remembered by his 6 grandchildren, Michelle Brown, Nicole Chotian, Tracy Rummel, Denise Myron, Lindsay and Beau Pieniak, 10 great grandchildren, two great grand dogs and also leaves his brothers, sister, and extended family in Poland. Visitation will be held Sunday from 1:00-3:00 p.m. with a remembrance service beginning at 3:00 p.m. at the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, kindly make donations to Quaboag Valley Hospice, 42 B Wright St., Palmer, MA for their great care in making him comfortable in his home. "
