Obituary of Gerald J. Aliengena

" Palmer, Gerald J. “Sonny” Aliengena, 75, formerly a longtime resident of Breckenridge St., died December 31, 2003 at Wingate at Wilbraham. Born in Monson, May 28, 1928, he was the son of the late John and Flora (Pierre)Aliengena. Sonny grew up in Monson, and later lived in Palmer for over 50 years. He served his country for two years in the National Guard. Mr. Aliengena was a pipe fitter at the former Colorado Fuel & Iron Corp for 28 years. Following his career at CF&I, he went back to school and obtained a real estate and broker’s license. He then owned and operated G.J.A Insurance Agency in Palmer for 25 years. He was involved with the Park Commission in Palmer, his efforts leading to the development of Burleigh Park. Gerald was very active in politics and was part of the Democratic National Convention. Sonny also had a great love for the outdoors, and enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member and past president of Neneneseck Rod & Gun Club. He was predeceased by his first wife, Constance (Griswold) Aliengena in 1991 and his second wife Marjorie Hulbert in1998. He was the loving father of seven children Gerald, Jr. of Monroe, GA, Gary of Park City, UT, Harry of Palmer, Shirley Ross of Brimfield, twin sons James of Belchertown, John of Ware and Barbara Aliengena of Palmer. Mr. Aliengena is also survived by 16 grandchildren, twins Paul & David, Kevin, Richard, Matthew, Anthony, Alaina, Jason, Ashley, Michael, Nick, Jacob, Christina, Elaine, Stephen and Cassandra. He also leaves 3 great grandchildren Jaelyn, Joshua & Nathan, three sisters Joyce, Patti and Dolores as well as a special friend Lillian Ferris with whom he lived in Wales. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 9:15 am from the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home with a Mass 10:00 am in St. Thomas Church. Burial will follow in Oak Knoll Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. Donations may be made in his memory to American Cancer Society 31, Capital Dr., W. Springfield, MA 01089. "
