Obituary of Arthur John Moriarty

" Arthur J. Moriarty, Jr., 57, of Franklin St, died December 27 at Cooley Dickinson Hospital. Born in Ware, September 23, 1946, he was the son of Stephanie (Lebida) Moriarty of Belchertown, and the late Arthur J. Moriarty, Sr. Arthur was a 1964 Graduate of Belchertown High School and a lifelong resident of the town. He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War and later established Belchertown Petroleum in 1974 at which he served as President until 1982. He later opened Moriarty Oil in 1987 which he operated until retiring in 1999. His business, his customers, he town of Belchertown and his family, were the core of Arthur’s life. He also enjoyed cross country travel with his family in their motor home, along with traveling to the annual National Hot Rod Association event in New Jersey. Besides his mother, Arthur will be greatly missed by his wife of 22 years, Patricia (Sherlock) Moriarty, and his son Jared Richard Moriarty at home. A funeral service will be Wednesday at 12:00 p.m. at the Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home followed by burial in South Cemetery. Friends may greet the family on Tuesday from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A pictorial tribute will be played at each calling hour.
