Obituary of George W. Pixley

" Belchertown- George W. Pixley, 84 of Chauncey Walker St. died at home Dec. 4, 2003. Born September 8, 1919 in Springfield, George was the son of the late George W. Sr., and Margaret (Chandler) Pixley. Mr. Pixley grew up in Sixteen Acres and later lived in Monson for almost 50 years before recently relocating to Belchertown. George served his country during WWII in the U.S. Navy. He was a Sea Bee in the South Pacific and never missed the annual Sea Bee reunion with his Sea Bee buddies. George was a truck driver for St. Johnsbury Trucking, retiring in the early 80’s. His leisure was spent on the farm in Monson along with annual trips to Florida for the winter season. He will be deeply missesd by his wife of 62 years, Madge (Lucia) Pixley, and his two daughters Rebecca P. Toner of Colorado Springs, CO and Kathryn M. Gaudette of Hinesburg, VT. Mr. Pixley is also survived by his five grandchildren, four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be Monday, December 8, at 3:00 p.m. at the Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home. Calling hours will be held from 1:00 -3:00 p.m. Burial will be at a later date. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in George’s memory to either Quaboag Valley Hospice, 103 Fairview St., Palmer, MA 01069 or Belchertown EMS, 9 E.Walnut St. P.O.
