Obituary of Edward G. Hartley

" Palmer, Edward G. "Sarge" Hartley, 84, of Park St, died Wednesday at home after a long illness. Born in Palmer, Jan. 27, 1919, he was the son of the late Horace and Ethel (Colburn) Hartley. Mr. Hartley was schooled in Palmer and lived here all of his life. He served his country in the Army during WWII. He worked at the former Cascades Diamond for 25 years as a press operator and retired in 1981. After retirement, he worked as a security guard for several years. He was predeceased by his wife Mary L. (McKinney) Hartley in 2000, along with a son James in 1958. He will be deeply missed by his two sons, Mark and his wife Deborah, and Darryl all of Palmer along with his granddaughter Lisa Hartley. He also leaves many step grandchildren. Calling hours will be Friday evening from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. at the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home. A service of remembrance will follow at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home. The family requests that donations be made in his memory to Quaboag Valley Hospice, 103 Fairview St, Palmer, 01069. "
