Obituary of Neil H. Alderman

" Neil H. Alderman, formerly of South Hadley, was called home on Saturday, November 1st surrounded by his family. Born in Hartford, CT on May 17, 1925, he was the son of the late Raymond and Clara (Cook) Alderman. Raised in Simsbury, CT he later enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as a Signalman 2nd Class on the U.S.S. Alsea during WWII. Following his service he worked in the private sector as an independent insurance agent serving such clients as Mount Holyoke College and the former Mt. Tom Ski Area, retiring in 1995. He was the President of the New England 1752 Club. As a long time resident of South Hadley, he was an Honorary Member of Friends of the South Hadley Public Library and President of CYASH during which time he coached little league baseball for several years. He was a life long member and past president of the South Hadley Lions Club, presented with the Hall of Fame Award and Distinguished Service Award. An avid golfer, he was a forty year member of the Orchards Golf Course where he was involved in several activities and committees. He was also a member of the Katahdin Country Club in Milo, Maine, near his summer home at Ebeemee Lake where he spent many summers with his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Edith (Rosebush) Alderman, and his four children, Caron Stevens and her husband Paul of Marblehead, MA, Lynn Sikes of Belchertown, William Alderman and his wife Laura of Granby, and Ann Boucher and her husband James of Stow, MA, as well as nine grandchildren, Matthew, Liane, Elizabeth, Stephen, Nathan, Allison, Nicole, Ashley and Emily, and a large extended family. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home, 646 Newton St, (Rte 116). Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:00 a.m. from the funeral home followed by a mass at 11:00 a.m. in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Granby. Burial immediately following in West Street Cemetery in Granby. Memorial donations may be made to American Diabetes Assoc., P.O. Box 31160, Hartford, CT 06150-1160. "
