Obituary of Harrison L. Thresher

" Easthampton- Harrison L. Thresher, 89, of 87 West St. died October 20, 2003. He leaves his devoted wife of 65 years, Lucile (Webster) Thresher; a son, Theodore A. Thresher and daughter-in-law Roberta of W.Brookfield; a daughter, Linda W. Morse of Oakham and was predeceased by a son Richard H. Thresher. He also leaves two brothers, Norman Thresher of Palmer; and Charles Thresher of Carlisle, Ohio, and a sister Marjorie Vincent of Palmer; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two grea-great grandchildren. Born in Greenwich, son of the late Harrison and Ida (Loux), he lived in W.Brookfield form 1938-1974 before moving to Easthampton. He was a 1932 graduate of Belchertown High School and a 1936 graduate of New York State Ranger School. An Easthampton school but driver for over 40 years, he was fondly known as ''Groucho'' (for his appreciation of Groucho Marx) and ''Harry Blue Dart''. He frequently led tours of the Quabbin Reservoir and was interviewed on several documentaries about the flooding of four towns in 1939. He and Lucile were regular attendees at the ''Tuesday Tea'' gathering of former residents of the Quabbin Valley. A picture of Harrison was featured on the cover of an issue of AARP. Calling hours will be held Friday from 9:30 a.m.-11:00 a.m. with a service at 11:00 a.m. at the Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Quabbin Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests dontions be made to Quaboag Activity Account, Quaboag on the Common, Main St., W. Brookfield, MA 01585 or to a charity of choice."
