Obituary of Frank Edward Calkins

" Palmer, Frank E. Calkins, 59, of Foster St., died October 11 at Wing Memorial Hospital in Palmer. Born in Palmer, June 24, 1944, he was the son of the late Evelyn Miller (Calkins). Frank lived in Monson for 20 years before moving to Palmer in 1964. He was a heavy equipment operator for Palmer Paving Corp for 25 years, retiring in 1997. He was an avid trap shooter and fisherman and belonged to Easthampton Fish & Game and the Nenameseck Rod and Gun Club in Palmer. He was also a member of Local 98, International Union of Operating Engineers. Frank also enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren, traveling, building and spending time with his dogs. Frank is survived by a son Christopher and his wife, Mary, of Missouri, a daughter Theresa Calkins of Thorndike, a brother Robert and his wife, Henriette of Wales, along with three grandchildren Lisa, Zachary and Jacob Calkins. He also leaves his former wife Joanne (Rivers) Calkins of Springfield. He was predeceased by his siter Priscilla Gunn. A service of remembrance will be Wednesday evening, Oct. 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home. A calling hour will precede the service from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. Burial is private to the family.
