Obituary of Kenneth W. Thayer

"Belchertown – Kenneth W. Thayer, 90, passed away on November 5, 2008. Born in Belchertown, MA on September 17, 1918 he was the son of the late Fred K. and Gertrude (Hough) Thayer. Kenneth was a lifelong resident of Belchertown and served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member and served on the finance and trustee boards at the Belchertown United Church of Christ. Kenneth was very active in the Town of Belchertown serving on numerous town committees; he was also a member of the Lions Club, Stone House, the Sound of Music and the Western Mass Model A Ford Restorers Club. Mr. Thayer retired from Jarvis in Palmer as a manufacturing manager after working for 45 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years Dorothy (Whittaker) Thayer, a daughter Shirley Dillard and her husband Greg of Belchertown and daughter-in-law Dorothy Thayer of Belchertown. Two grandchildren Andrea Juskalian and Donald Thayer and his wife Melinda and three great grandchildren Kenneth, Veronica and Ashleigh will also miss him. Two sons Kenneth James Thayer in March of 2008 and Donald W. Thayer, and two sisters Gertrude Holmes and Marcella Coto predeceased him. A Funeral Service will be Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the Belchertown United Church of Christ, followed by burial in South Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday from 2:00-5:00 p.m. at the Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home.
