Obituary of J. Leonard Plante

"Belchertown – J. Leonard Plante, 80, of Mill Hollow Rd., passed away on Oct. 17, 2008 at Wingate at South Hadley Nursing Home. Born in Holyoke, Ma on August 28, 1928, he was the son of the late Eloi and Stella (Bissette) Plante who died during childbirth. Mr. Plante served his country in the U.S. Army. He has lived in Belchertown since 2000 and previously lived in Amherst and most of his life in Holyoke. Retiring in 1983, as a station operator for Holyoke Water & Power after working for 35 years. He was predeceased by his wife Louise (Loomis) Plante in 2000 and his step mother Bernice (Forrest) Plante in 1992. He is survived by his sister Shirley Harstad and her husband John of Belchertown, three nieces Deborah, Sandra and Sharon and five nephews Thomas, Raymond, Wayne, David and Roy. Funeral services will be Thursday beginning at 8:45 a.m. from the Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home followed by a liturgy of Christian burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Francis Church. Military honors and burial will follow at the Massachusetts Veteran Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St. in Agawam at 11:00 a.m. Calling hours are Wednesday from 6:00-9:00 p.m. Donations may be made in his memory to the Paralyzed Veterans of America, 7 Mill Brook Rd., Wilton, NH 03086."
