Obituary of Bruce C. Smith

"Belchertown – Bruce C. Smith, Sr., 62, of State St., died peacefully on Saturday, June 14, 2008, with his loving family by his side. Born on February 24, 1946, in Winchester, Va., he is the son of Thomas and Patricia (Capper) Lee of Winchester, Va. Bruce was a devoted husband to his wife of 43 years, Darleyne (Barden) Smith, and father to Kimberly Smith and Bruce C. Smith, Jr. He was very dedicated to his family, friends, the Belchertown Recreational Dept. and, most recently, the Belchertown Land Trust. He was also a member of the Belchertown Congregational Church. Bruce was a faithful and valuable employee of the Asplundh Tree Company for 45 years, a Certified Arborist and member of the International Society of Arborists and a Certified Red Cross Instructor. Besides his parents, wife and children, he will be missed by his four grandchildren, Jimmy, Connor, Tyler and Grace, along with his brother Michael Lee and his wife Martha of Maine. Another brother, Mitchell, died tragically in 1979 at the age of 24. Many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews also survive him. Funeral services will be on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at the Belchertown Congregational Church, followed by burial in South Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home.
