Obituary of Aldor E. Matthieu

"Palmer- Aldor E. Matthieu, 79, of Flynt St. passed away May 15, 2008 at Baystate Medical Center. Born September 16, 1928 in Adams, MA, he was the son of the late Aldor F. and Helen T. (Paquin) Matthieu. Al has lived in Palmer for most of his life and was a member of St. Thomas Church. Serving his country during WWII in the U.S. Army, he was present Commander of AMVETS Post 74 and responsible for the formation of the Sons of AMVETS. Al was part of the American Legion and a former Fire Fighter with the Three Rivers Fire Dept. Al retired from Pierson Industries in 1991. In the 20 plus years he worked there, not only was he instrumental in founding the Union at Pierson's, he was President of it. He negotiated many contracts resulting in substantial benefits for employees. He also helped create the Pierson Employee Association, which provided Christmas parties and gifts for the employees and their families. Al enjoyed golfing, working bingo, playing pitch, horseshoes, and making his puzzles. He was an avid Red Sox fan and his smile and laughter portrayed his love for life and living it to the fullest. He was predeceased by his wife in 1994, Alice (Lefebvre) and will be greatly missed by his children Michael and his wife Patricia of Three Rivers, Linda Lamb and her husband James of Westfield, Gerard and his wife Cynthia of Palmer, Donna Williams and her husband Scott of Monson, Paul and his wife Karen of Georgia, and Kathleen Matthieu with whom Aldor lived. Al also leaves a sister Blanche Squires of Inverness, FL, a brother Ernest and his wife Katherine of Ludlow, 13 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by a sister, Helen Nareau in 1991. Funeral services will begin Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. at the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home with a mass of Christian burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Church with burial and military honors to follow at St. Anne's Cemetery.
