Obituary of Kenneth James Thayer

"Belchertown – Kenneth James Thayer, 65, of Mill Valley Rd., passed away at home on March 26, 2008. Born in Springfield, MA on April 19, 1942 he is the son of Kenneth W. and Dorothy (Whittaker) Thayer of Belchertown. Kenneth was a lifelong resident of Belchertown and a 35 year member of the Belchertown Fire Department. He was very active with the restoration of the old Belchertown Fire House and a member for 38 years of the Western Mass Model A Ford Restorers Club. In his leisure, he loved to watch Nascar racing, classic autos and enjoyed Cruise Nights. He retired in 1994, after working for the Belchertown Highway Department as a truck driver for over 20 years. He previously worked for the former Quabbin Industries as a machinist. Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife of 42 years Dorothy (Hulse) Thayer and a son Donald Thayer and his wife Melinda of Belchertown. He will also be missed by a sister Shirley Dillard and her husband Greg of Belchertown, three grandchildren Kenneth, Veronica and Ashleigh and many nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be Monday at 10:00 a.m. at the Beers & Story Belchertown, followed by burial in South Cemetery.
