Obituary of Adele A. Volpe

"Adele A. (Shimkus) Volpe, 100, passed peacefully from this life on Monday, March 23, 2015. She rejoins her beloved husband Frank who predeceased her in 1994. Adele was born in Gardner, MA and after graduating high school she moved to Boston where she completed her education at Burdette Business College. She worked for the Hood Rubber Co. as a secretary and bookkeeper and loved her life as a single, working girl living in the city. Adele eventually met her husband to be and after his military service they married in 1946. As their family grew, they moved to western MA and settled in So. Hadley. Adele devoted herself to her family and as her children became older she pursued her many interests in the creative and domestic arts developing skill in furniture re-finishing, carpentry, sewing, millinery, and rug-braiding. Adele was a wonderful homemaker and fabulous cook. She loved people and socializing with friends especially with her bowling team. She was an active member of the So. Hadley Women's Club, and communicant of St. Theresa's parish and later St. Patrick's church both of So. Hadley. She leaves behind her children: Ellen Wohlers and husband Robert of Easthampton, Frances Volpe of Granby, David Volpe and wife Jennifer of Sharon and her grandchildren: Michele Bilger, Steven Rivera, Charles Rivera, Robyn Donovan and their spouses and partners. All will miss her greatly. Many thanks go out to the staff at Mont Marie nursing facility where she was lovingly cared for over the past few years. She shared much love and joy with the staff, her family, and friends and would say that she loved a great, full, life. Burial and memorial service will be private and at the convenience of the family. Donations can be made in memory of Adele to the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield. "
