Obituary of Henry S. Ziomek

"Henry S. Ziomek, 85, died peacefully on Friday, March 07, 2008 with his family by his side. Born in Amherst, October 8, 1922, he was the son of the late Michael and Anna (Szymanski) Ziomek. He grew up in Amherst before moving to Granby 53 years ago. He worked for the former F.W. Sickles Co. for 35 years. He founded the Granby Athletic Association in 1958 and remained a senior member. He will long be remembered for his vegetable stand, which he tended until his death. A communicant of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, he was involved in the CCD program, the parish council and ran bingo for 25 years. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 58 years, Therese (Beauchemin) Ziomek, along with his 7 children Hank and his wife Eileen of Wilbraham, Thomas of Coral Springs, FL, Karen Robidoux and her husband Richard of Holyoke, Diane Plante and her husband Mark of S. Hadley, James and his wife Sarah of Berlin, Germany, Janet Manzi and her husband Thomas of Wilbraham, and Robert and his wife Annette of S. Hadley. He also leaves his 17 precious grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, a brother Stanley and his wife Beverly of Amherst, two sisters in laws, Joan Ziomek of Hadley, Lucille LaPointe of Chicopee and brother in law Eugene Beauchemin and his wife Beatrice of Thorndike. He was predeceased by siblings Joseph, Casmir, Polly and Sophie. Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 12 at 9:00 a.m. from the Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home, 646 Newton St., followed by a mass in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in West Cemetery.
