Obituary of David R. Baird

"David R. Baird, 68, of Wilson St., died suddenly on January 1, 2008 at his home. Born in Springfield, he was a graduate of Technical High and lived in Willimansett for many years before moving to S. Hadley in 1973. Dave served his country in the Army during the Korean era. He was currently employed at Bay State Plating, a company owned by his daughter and son in law. He had previously worked for many years at New England Door Closers in W. Springfield. David was a member and past master of the Indian Orchard Masonic Lodge and was also a Shriner. He was also a lifetime member of the Adriatic Club in Springfield. An avid golfer, he golfed in the Joe D league at St. Anne’s Country Club and also the Ebeneezer Choo league at the Ledges. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 42 years, Ann (Matulewicz) Baird, along with his two daughters Suzanne Roberts and her husband Timothy of S. Hadley, and Laura Saracino and her husband Joe of E. Longmeadow. His precious grandchildren Becca and Craig Roberts and Joe and Nick Saracino will also miss him. He also leaves a brother Bruce of Chicago, IL and a sister Carol Hitz of Sudbury, a beloved sister in law, Shirley Mann of Chicopee, his beloved pet Sophie, as well as many nieces and nephews. A Service of Remembrance will be Saturday, January 5 at 10:00 a.m. at the Beers & Story S. Hadley Funeral Home, 646 Newton St., (Rte 116). Calling hours will be Friday from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. The family would like donations to be made in his memory to Shriner’s Hospital for Crippled Children, Carew St., Springfield."
