Obituary of Merton Bud'' L. Chapin

" Merton “Bud” L. Chapin, 72, of Off Larivierre St, in the Three Rivers section of Palmer, died Friday. Born in Great Barrington, Dec. 24, 1929, he was the son of the late Merton A. and Lois T. (Clapp) Chapin. He lived in San Jose, CA and Ludlow, MA for a time, but spent most of his life in Palmer. Mr. Chapin served in the Army in 1947. He was a truck driver for Morris Haskell Trucking Company in Palmer for 20 years and then Ryder Truck Rental for 8 years before his retirement in 1994. He also worked previously for the Ford Motor Company in Melpitas, CA. Bud was an avid motorcycle fan and was a life member of the American Motorcycle Association. He also served as an official New England Starter for the association. He belonged to the Quaboag Riders in Monson and at one time served as its president. He also loved to hunt. He is survived by his wife of over 40 years, the former Christie Nute, 2 sons, Merton A. of Palmer, and Leon of Ware, 2 step sons Larry Pereira of New Bern, NC, and Keith Pereira of Templeton, MA. He also leave 3 sisters Doris Chapin of Brimfield, Bette Chapin of Westford, and Ellen Chapin of Monroe, NH as well as 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in the BEERS AND STORY PALMER FUNERAL HOME followed by burial in Oak Knoll Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday from 2:00 – 4:00 & 7:00 –9:00 pm.
