Obituary of George H. Stone

" George H. Stone, 87, of Pearl St, died Wed. at Wing Memorial Hospital. Born in Monson, Nov. 5, 1914, he was the son of the late William and Anna (Walsh) Stone. George grew up in Monson and moved to Palmer 61 years ago. He was a communicant of St. Thomas Church and an Army Veteran of WWII from 1942—1946, serving in the Pacific Theater. Mr. Stone worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Palmer for 30 years. He served as assistant postmaster for 12 years, and was Postmaster from 1974 until his retirement in 1976. George was also a member of the American Legion Post 130 for 56 years. George’s wife of 48 years, the former Ruth Loomis LeGro, died in 1990. He was also predeceased by a daughter Marilyn. He is survived by a brother William P. Stone, Jr. of Framingham, and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Monday from 10-11 a.m. at the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home followed by a mass at 11:30 a.m.in St. Thomas Church. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery.
