Obituary of Ora Beatrice Swain

" Ora B. (Moore) Swain, 80, of Fletcher St., died March 20, 2002 at her daughter’s home in Ludlow. She was the daughter of the late Charles & Ora (Gaouette) Moore. Born in Ware, MA on May 30, 1921, she was a life long resident of Palmer. She graduated in 1938 from Palmer High School. She retired in 1986 as a sales clerk from Lerner’s department store in the Eastfield Mall, where she worked for 17 years, she previously worked for Massachusetts Electric Company in Palmer and as a reporter for the Springfield Daily News during WWII. Ora was a communicant of St. Thomas Church, for 80 years, and taught CCD for many years at the church, she was a volunteers at Wing Memorial Hospital in Palmer for 45 years. She was predeceased by her husband Robert Swain in 1973 and by a son Robert C. Swain in 1995. She is survived by a son Brian Swain of Springfield, and 3 daughters Margaret Fonte of Ludlow w/ whom she lived, Catherine Piteo of W. Springfield and Linda Swain-Chagnon of Thorndike. She also leaves 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, and two special friends Helen Healy & Mary Lapota. A funeral service will be Sat. at 9:15am from the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home, followed by a mass at 10:00 am in St.Thomas Church., burial will follow in Four Corners Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday from 4-7:00pm. In lieu of flowers please make donations in her memory to Quaboag Valley Hospice, 103 Fairview St., Palmer, MA 01069. "
