Obituary of Donald Roger LaPorte

" Belchertown, MA- Donald R. LaPorte, 75, of Bay Rd., died March 14, 2002 in Mary Lane Hospital. Born in Holyoke, Ma on Jan. 8, 1927, he was the son of the late Edward & Lucia (Beauchemin) LaPorte. Donald had lived in Belchertown since October of 1958, and previously had lived in Willimanset. Donald was a Navy & Marine Veteran who served in both WWII & Korean Wars. He retired in 1989 from Western New England College where he ran the computer center, for over 20 years. He was a communicant of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Granby. He was a 4th degree Knight of the Knight’s of Columbus, he was a past Grand Knight. Donald was a former County Commissioner for Hampshire County, he was also involved in Belchertown politics for many years. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, the former Therese Bourdeau, as well as 3 sons Donald Bruce of Agawam, Gregory J. of Northampton, Timothy M. of Pittsfield, and a daughter Lucia Sturup of Londonderry, NH. He also leaves 2 brothers Ronald of Ellington, CT & William of Southwick, and 8 granchildren. A funeral service will be Monday at 8:00am from the BEERS & STORY BELCHERTOWN FUNERAL HOME, followed by a mass of christian liturgy at 9:00am in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. A committal service will be at 11:00am in the Massachusetts Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Agawam.. Calling hours are Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8pm. Donations may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701."
