Obituary of Wallace J. Roberts

" Wallace J. Roberts Sr. 81 of Smith St passed away on Tuesday April 10, 2007 with his family by his side. Born in Palmer MA on April 25, 1925 he was the son of the late Wallace A Roberts and Lottie M Smart. He was raised in Palmer Center and was a lifelong resident of Palmer. Mr Roberts served in the US Marines during WWII. Wallace retired from the Dept of Public Works to work alongside his wife in the establishment of Roberts Archery Company. Wallace had a love for all sports but his deepest passion was hunting and fishing. He was a master bowman, an avid outdoors man and environmental advocate. He was a member of GOAL and the NRA. In his younger years he played semi pro football, played for St. Joe’s baseball team, competed in New England Archery, boxing and bowling tournaments. He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years Doris W (Keith) Roberts in 2005. He is survived by his three daughters Cheryl and her husband Michael Rovelli, Barbara and her husband Roger Rondeau, Norma Roberts and a son Wallace J Roberts, Jr. and his wife Cynthia. He also leaves a sister Alice Piechota, seven grandchildren Nicole Griswold, Matthew Rovelli, Stephen and Jason Rondeau and Cynthia Matera, Carlo and Angela Santucci also nine great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A Funeral service will be Friday at 10:00 a.m. in the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are Thursday from 2:00-4:00 & 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Baystate Hospice 50 Maple St., Springfield, MA. "
