Joe & I go back to 1965 when we were with IBM. There was only 3 of us IBMers, Joe, Mal, and I, in the Springfield office trained on a certain piece of equipment. Some customers ran this equipment around the clock sometimes only taking a break on Sundays. The 3 of us shared the responsibility of being called out at all hours of the night to repair some type of problem that had occurred. We would rotate on responding to the two, three, and four am calls. We got to know each other quite well. Joe was a fine, level-headed gentleman. His presence with customers and friends was always welcome. His calling to becoming a teacher was a loss for IBM but a huge gain for all the students who passed through his classroom. I can only imagine that Joe must have been a great teacher. All who had Joe in their lives will certainly miss him. George Reneris, business associate & friend

Uncle Joe was such a gentle person with a wealth of knowledge to share. We would visit uncle Joe, aunt Gerry and Laura at the cape during the summer and He would love to take walks and I would go with him at times and loved listening to him talk about the history of the area as well as other insightful stories. He will be truly missed! Cindy Killian

So sadden to have lost Joe. He was my friend and mentor. I never would have made it thru my first year of teaching without him. Joe was always there for me. He inspired me to pursue a career in science and showed that science could be fun and to never stop questioning. OSV will never seem the same without him. My family and I always sought him out. While Joe had a great since of humor, he was in the truest sense a scholar and a gentleman. I will deeply miss him. Love you Joe!

Mr. Slowick -- my favorite biology teacher-- EVER! I was interested in science and biology, but you made it come to life! When I attended you biology classes at Monson High school-- I know that you had to fight to get the grants for our advanced biology classes, b/c you got us animals who could be dissected. No small task. And, we were required to treat each animal with a loving approach.
Thank you for encouraging my love for science~ I am deeply involved in the study of anatomy and all levels of physiology... I will always love you for this!

I loved helping Mr. Slowick out in his room. The kids really loved him. He made biology very interesting and kept the kids attention. I saw him at OSV and could tell that he loved what he was doing. We all have another angel watching over us from the heavens.
