WE MET VERN OLSON in 2019, giving him a few rides home and once we were going to the same plaza wer stopped the car to go to what is now Walgreens we gave him a ride back home also. Never saw him after that, sent a Christmas card and were just thinking of him yesterday coming home from Palmer to Warren. Wonderful man Pat and heldon Burnham

I thought of him as the Grandpa I never had, I picked him up whenever I saw him waiting for a ride into Palmer. I asked him one time if that was his lunch pail and he laughed and said it was his man bag. Sometimes when we got to his destination he would exit the car and blow me a kiss, he was such a nice man.

I was saddened to hear that Vern had passed away. I first met him when we bowled together so many years ago. He came back into my life many, many years later. As so many people, I gave Vern a few rides, with the most memorable being the day I picked him up, only to find it wasn't Vern. Vern was a true delight and will be missed by all who knew him, even if for a moment. May you forever walk in peace with your wife by your side.

I just heard the sad news, Mr Olson you're surely going to be missed, I loved giving you rides and listening to your stories, you we're such a flirt, and funny is all heck, last time I gave you a ride, I found you asleep on a milk crate in CVS holding your little lunch bucket, I thank them for taking care of you and then I woke you up, you looked up at me and your eyes lit up seeing a familiar face, I was there for prescription and I found you instead, God had different plans for me that day, I remember the first time I gave you a ride it seemed so far and I was kind of late for an appointment and I'm thinking myself, where I heck does this old man live, (83 yrs young) after that first ride I'd literally looked for you to make sure you weren't walking, I remember you got in my car once and said it smelled like pot, so I did the right thing and asked you if you wanted to smoke but you said no, you're ARE an amazing person , and you'll live on in this community long after I'm gone, you'll forever be missed but never forgotten
Much love my hitch hiking friend ✌️

Mr. Olson was a very long time customer of mine at cvs and I have given him many rides. He was always a face I was happy to see. Just something about him, you just knew he was a good soul. If you have not seen all the wonderful comments on Facebook on the palmer site, please take a minute to look. It was so nice to see so many people in the community who enjoyed helping him out. He (and his lunchobx) will be missed.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Olson many years ago while he was exhibiting or shopping at my Grandfather’s antique show. I also took the opportunity to pick him up on any occasion that I saw him. It was enjoyable to reminisce about the ‘old days’ of antiquing. I will certainly miss him but feel certain that he is resting comfortably now. My best wishes to the family for fond memories to support the healing of your hearts in this time of loss. Very sincerely,
Laurel (Mathieu) Prescott (Granddaughter of Gordon Reid Sr.)
