Obituary of Martin Joseph Geraghty

South Hadley- Martin Joseph Geraghty, 59, of South Hadley, MA, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on July 7, 2020. He was born on June 1, 1961 in Holyoke, MA to the late John and Dorothy (McCain) Geraghty and went on to graduate from South Hadley Highschool. After graduation, he worked as an installer for Continental Cable for over 18 years, and in more recent years as maintenance for Holyoke Community College. Martin also worked for many years as a part-time firefighter for  the Town of South Hadley, District 2 quarters.  He was an avid member of the of Sons of American Legion, Post 266 in Granby. He loved motorcycles and going on long rides wherever the journey might take him.  Martin will be remembered for his love of fireworks and lighting them off the banks of the Connecticut River on warm summer evenings. He also enjoyed traveling with bands and worked on setting up stage lighting. Martin was a committed and loving husband to his late wife, Wanda (Kennison) of 20 years.  He never left her side when she was diagnosed with cancer and for 3 years, he worked two jobs and continued to bring her to every appointment at Dana Farber in Boston. There, he was fondly known as the "Duck Man" telling everyone to "Have a ducky day!" He never talked about himself and was always there for his dear friends and family, always lending a helping hand to anyone who was in need.
Martin will be deeply missed by all who knew him, including his loving siblings Kathleen Wehr and her husband, John, of Granby, John Geraghty and his wife Deborah of Holyoke, and James Geraghty and his late wife Nancy of Chicopee; his nieces and nephews Jason, Sheena, Jen, Bridget and her son Edwin, Nicholas, and Indira; his Aunt Judy of Rocky Hill, Ct who is the pillar of the family; and of course, his furry buddy, Buckets, the cat. In addition to his wife and parents, Martin is predeceased by his sister, Maureen "Aunty Mo" Tauscher. 
A period of visitation for Martin will be held on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 from 4pm-7pm, with reflections shared by family and friends beginning at 6pm at Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home, 646 Newton St, South Hadley, MA 01075. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Ave., SW120, Boston, MA 02215 or Baystate Hospice, 759 Chestnut St, Springfield, MA 01199.
