Obituary of Joan Sullivan

Joan (Viera) Sullivan, 72, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on November 11, 2020 after a courageous battle with cancer.  She was born on October 2, 1948 in Ludlow MA, the daughter of the late Joseph and Beatrice Viera.  She was predeceased by her husband Thomas Sullivan in 2014.  She attended St. John the Baptist school and graduated from Ludlow High School.  She spent her entire career working in the field of insurance, starting off at Aetna then Travelers Insurance until she retired in 2014.   She was a faithful communicant at St. Francis Church in Belchertown where she taught CCD, volunteered at the yearly church tag sale, and in her retirement enjoyed her daily mass and breakfast with the other morning mass ladies.  Through Travelers, she also volunteered in a Big Brothers, Big Sisters program that tutored kids in Hartford.  She enjoyed traveling to North Carolina, Maine, Myrtle Beach, and Florida, and visiting different lighthouses. She was an animal lover, always having the companionship of several cats and dogs.  She even fed the wildlife, making sure the birds never went hungry in the winter. She also loved Christmas and spoiled her family every year with the presents she enjoyed buying.  
Joan is survived by her daughter Julie Nicoliello and her husband Mario, her son Daniel Sullivan and his wife Laura; her cherished grandchildren Sarah, James, Patrick, and Molly; her sisters Linda Boucher and Marilyn Loudon; brothers Alan and Joseph Viera; her nephews Michael and Timothy Loudon who were always there for her; and several other nieces and nephews who will miss her very much. She will also be missed by her dog Pedie and her cat Livi.  
A walk through visitation will be held Sunday, Nov. 15th from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home.  A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church.  Please meet directly at the church.  Burial is private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Dakin Humane Society, PO Box 6307, Springfield, MA 01101.
