Obituary of Bernard L. Cloutier
South Hadley--Bernard “Bernie” Cloutier, 75, passed away unexpectedly at home on Tuesday, May 11, 2021. Son of the late Roland and Leona (Champagne), he was born in Holyoke on March 31, 1946. He graduated from Holyoke Catholic High School and went on to obtain his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Massachusetts.
Bernie served his country proudly in the United States’ Navy during the Vietnam War from 1967-1968. After his faithful service to our nation, he worked for over 40 years as a dock clerk supervisor for the United States Postal Service Distribution Center in Springfield, MA.
Devoted husband to Anne and proud father of his son Jason, and daughter Kishori, Bernie was a family man at heart. He loved spending time with his grandson and learning of his fishing adventures, star gazing and hits on the baseball diamond. Bernie looked forward to coffee and lunches with his brother Norman and his sister Suzanne. Bernie was an avid reader and always had a great book recommendation for families and friends. His sharp wit and sense of humor was enjoyed by all who knew him. Bernie simply had a way with words. He was an extraordinary man who faced life’s challenges with grace and dignity.
Bernie will be dearly missed by all who knew him, including his loving wife Anne (Morrisey); his son Jason Cloutier and his wife, Michelle and their son Jacob of Cumberland, RI; his sister Suzanne Haas of Westfield, and his brother Norman Cloutier of South Hadley.
In addition to his parents, Bernie is predeceased by his daughter, Kishori Cloutier in 1985; his three brothers, Ronald, Robert, and Paul; as well as his sister, Claire Koniezhny.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home, 646 Newton St. from 9:00am-11:00am with a funeral home service beginning at 11:00am. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shiners Hospital for Children (https://www.shrinershospitalsforchildren.org/shc).
