Obituary of Marilyn J. Spofford

Granby- Marilyn Jean (Wetherby) Spofford, 82, passed away on Monday, July 26, 2021 at Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton. She was the daughter of the late George E. and Evelyn J. (Graves) Wetherby. She was born in Montague, raised and schooled in Orange, and lived in Granby since 1967. Marilyn was a 1956 graduate of Orange High School and played basketball and softball for the high school team. After graduation, she worked at Dawn Dairy in Orange where she met her husband. They lived all over the world during his Air Force career. After settling in Granby, Marilyn was an Avon representative for 20 years. She also volunteered at the Granby schools and at Westover Air Reserve Base in Chicopee. She was a tireless worker on the floor of the Base Hangar during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003. Marilyn enjoyed bowling, gardening, and exercising at the Westover gymnasium. Marilyn is survived by her husband of 63 years, Robert B. Spofford, Sr.; her daughter, Pamela Mangan of Springfield; and her son, Robert Spofford, Jr. of Granby. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Marilyn was predeceased by her four brothers, Russell, Ronald, Gerald, and Dennis. Services will be held privately and at the convenience of her family. Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home has been entrusted with her arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Soldiers Home, 110 Cherry St. Holyoke, MA 01040.
