Obituary of Charles William White

Belchertown- Charles William White, 75, passed away January 24, 2022 at his home with his family by his side, after a long and courageous battle with a neurological disease. He was born in Springfield, Massachusetts to the late Clair and Mildred White. Charles served his country in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. For six years he worked as a college professor at STCC. He was an avid reader and had great interest in history and writing historical novels, two of which became self-published. He loved music and being in nature whether it be while hiking with his family, working outdoors around his land and precious trees, or gliding over the valley from Northampton Airport. Charles very much enjoyed photography, tractors, cars, and car racing, and as long as his health allowed him, he and his wife attended numerous Vintage Race Car & Sports Car Parades at Lime Rock, CT. He spent many years restoring his 1961 911 Porsche, that was equipped for racing. The most important thing to Charles was his family. He was a loving husband and proud father. His family will forever cherish memories of the wonderful time they spent together. Besides his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his brother Kenneth White, uncle John Clarke, and best friends John and Phyllis Weinle. He will be profoundly missed by his beloved wife of 32 years, Neige (DaSilva) White and son, Jacob (Jake) White. Charles also will be dearly missed by his sisters, Cindy White, and Ann Marie and husband Robert Opalenik (Neige and Jake will be eternally thankful to his sisters for the all the love, attention and support they provided to their brother and them); by his mother-in-law Eloisia Meneses of Brazil who loved him dearly; by his aunts, Virginia Simpson of Florida, and Mary Cleary of Ludlow; by his nieces, nephews, and cousins; as well as by several friends, including Claudio and Daniela Moreira of Belchertown. The family would like to thank Charles’ home care aids Robin and Josephine, for their dedication in caring for Charles. They also wish to thank the entire team of the Hospice of the Fisher Home for their compassionate care, and to his hospice nurses, Susan and Pia, for the dedication and affection shown to him and his family. Charles fought a good fight, now is his time to soar to eternal rest. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 5th at 10:00 a.m. at Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home. Burial will immediately follow in South Cemetery. Donations in Charles' memory can be made to The Hospice of the Fisher Home-Amherst, MA.
