Obituary of Raymond J. Giroux

South Hadley-Raymond J. Giroux, 84, passed away September 21, 2022 at Holyoke Medical Center surrounded by his family.  Born in Holyoke on August 1, 1938, he was the son of Richard and Rose (D'Astous) Giroux.   Raymond lived in Willimansett before moving to Granby where he lived for over 30 years, most currently he resided in South Hadley.  He was a member of the Chicopee Revolver Club and loved spending time in the great outdoors while hunting, fishing, kayaking, snowmobiling and motorcycling.  He was also an avid Dallas Cowboy fan and loved going to the drag races. For 40 years, retiring in 2003, he worked at Foodmart in South Hadley as a meat cutter.  Raymond will be dearly missed by his wife of 66 years, Lucille (Ponton) along with their three children, Barbara C. Young (Jim), Robert Giroux (Robbin), and Rob Giroux (Martha).  Raymond also leaves seven sisters and four brothers, Irene King, Georgette Piquette, Normand Giroux, Lorraine Manley, Lillian Kough, Rita Fournier, George Giroux, Richard Giroux, Jeannette Nally, John Giroux, and Theresa Fontaine.  Two grandchildren, Steven Young (Jessica), and Heather Scott (Jay), along with four great grandchildren, Alexis, Logan, Emily Scott and Ashley Young also survive him.  Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Yvonne Haas.  Visitation will be held on Sunday, Sept. 25th from 2:00 - 5:00 pm at the Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home.  Family and friends may gather at the funeral home on Monday at 9:45 am to follow in procession to a Funeral Mass at 11:00am at St. Patrick's Church.
