Obituary of Lela B. Royal

Granby- Lela B. "Lee" Royal, 88, passed away September 26, 2023. She was born on January 3, 1935 in North Adams to the late Robert and Louise (Buckley) Bass and graduated from Drury High School. Shortly after high school, Lee served as a United States Marine before being honorably discharged. Following her time in the service, she and her husband, Robert, built a home in Granby in 1964 where they raised their family and lived ever since. She was a former member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish and was a Brownie Troop leader for 10 years. Lee was very talented, and her creativity and craftiness could be seen in her hand made stuffed animals and quilts, and in her knitting. Lela was a very kind and special person, and she will truly be missed. Besides her parents, Lela was preceded in death by her husband, Robert F. Royal, in 2021; and their children, Ann Royal in 2020 and Tamara "Tammy" Royal in 2023. Lela leaves behind her dear friends and neighbors who cared for her dearly. A period of visitation will be held on Oct. 5th from 11:30am-1:30pm with a catholic service to begin at 1:30pm at the Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home. Burial will immediately follow at 3:00pm at the Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or to St. Labre Indian School, PO Box 216, Ashland, MT 59003-9989.
