Obituary of Rita Margaret Butler

Belchertown-Rita M. Butler, 96, passed away at Vantage of Wilbraham on October 21, 2023. She was born in Holyoke on September 3, 1927, daughter of David Butler and Eva (Morin) Gagnon. Rita lived in Chicopee and Holyoke and for the past 40 years, in Belchertown. For 36 years, she owned and operated Butler's House of Beauty in Holyoke. She then worked for 9 years as a cashier at Checker's in Belchertown. In her leisure, Rita enjoyed cooking and gardening. Her church was very important to her, and she was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi in Belchertown. Rita was predeceased by her longtime friend, Margaret Laing in 2018. She is survived by her friends, Jim and Karen Brown of East Longmeadow. A funeral mass will be held Thursday, November 2 at 10 a.m. at St. Francis Church with burial to follow in South Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 24 Jabish St., Belchertown, MA. 01007.
