Obituary of Richard Ray Braden

Ft. Myers, FL - Richard R. Braden, 71, formerly of New Braintree, MA, passed away unexpectedly on December 19, 2023, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on April 2, 1952, in Boston, MA, he was the cherished son of Ray S. and Helen M. (Miley) Braden. Richard's journey began in Melrose, MA, and he later pursued higher education at Northeastern University, graduating in 1976 as a Registered Nurse (RN) and earning his Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). For over four decades, Richard dedicated his career to serving others as an ICU RN at Brigham & Women's Hospital. His compassionate care and expertise touched the lives of countless patients. In 1974, Richard married his high school sweetheart, Karen Fabiano, and together, they created an enduring love story and beautiful life. While residing in New Braintree, Richard actively contributed to his community. He served on the volunteer fire department and held elected positions on the planning board and school committee. Richard's wealth of knowledge extended to his children and grandchildren, whom he lovingly shared it with while tending to his gardens, fruit trees, honey bees, and crafting delicious maple syrup. Known for his wisdom, Richard was affectionately referred to as "Papa" by his family. He enjoyed outdoor pursuits, including time at the gun range, pheasant and deer hunting, and fishing with his grandchildren. A skilled handyman, Richard was the go-to person for any repairs or mendings, particularly when it came to cars and homes. Richard relished engaging in political conversations and took pride in supporting his children during their youth and, more recently, cheering on his grandchildren at their sporting or extra curricular events. He loved bragging about their academic and athletic accomplishments. He was so proud of all his grandkids. A devoted Palmer Panther and Fairfield University fan, he epitomized the spirit of a true supporter. In 2013, Richard and Karen embraced the snowbird lifestyle, making Florida their second home. In 2021, they became full-time residents, relishing their retirement by creating cherished memories through travel and enjoying the warm weather. Richard leaves behind a legacy of love and is deeply missed by his wife of 49 years, Karen J. (Fabiano) Braden, and their children, Amanda Theriault and her husband, Kristopher, Anthony Braden and his wife, Erin, all of Palmer, as well as Matthew Braden and his wife Yuko of New Mexico.
