Obituary of Charles S. Pysz

In Loving Memory of Jonathan Evans (aka Charles "Chip" S Pysz Jr)

Jonathan Evans, known as Charles "Chip" S Pysz Jr to family and close friends, departed this world at the age of 70 on January 10, 2024. Born November 20, 1953 in Holyoke, he was the son of Charles Sr. and Geneva (Drozdowski) Pysz.

Graduating from South Hadley High in 1973, Chip's distinctive voice and dry wit led him to a 30 year career in radio. It not only entertained thousands of listeners but also brought him the love of his life, Kathleen A (Reed) Duffy-Pysz. Their chemistry on the air in 1980 would turn into “Herbs for Health and Healing”, as well as a 42 year marriage.

Leaving a lasting legacy, Chip joined The Herbarium, which became a cornerstone in the community from 1978 to 2023. His passion for herbs and natural remedies led him to become a certified Herbal Information Specialist, sharing his knowledge as a regular guest on WWLP Mass Appeal.

An accomplished calligrapher, Chip's elegant designs adorned wedding invitations, memorials, and even the original lettering for the Yankee Candle Company. Fondly remembered for his love of Jimmy Buffet music, Hawaiian shirts, and quoting Mel Brooks movies, he brought joy to many.

In the 1980s, Chip's advocacy work earned him a Certificate of Merit from then-governor Edward King for his efforts to keep purchased blood and plasma out of Massachusetts.

Along with his wife, Chip's memory will forever remain with his daughter, Jessica Pysz-Mutti; his sister, Pamela (Pysz) Dyman (Cumberland, RI); stepchildren, Andrea Mengel and Eric Duffy, along with four grandsons, one granddaughter, and a newborn great-grandson.

A celebration of life BBQ will be held at Look Park in May. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to a GoFundMe campaign, aiming to help cover memorial and funeral services. https://gofund.me/b54bda01

Chip's impact on the community was immeasurable. His knowledge, genuine concern for others, and warm sense of humor made him a beloved figure. The overwhelming support, condolences, and shared grief from the community reflect the countless lives he touched. His passing leaves a significant void in our hearts and lives, and he will be deeply missed.
